Ellenborough Team

Ellenborough Second team maintain a one point lead over second placed Cornwall going in to the last weekend of the British League.  

Ellenborough II once again played extremely well all weekend. Their first match (a ”local derby”) against East London Progress was a clinical display by divisional leaders Ellenborough II.  Chris Marlow and Ian Black excelled for Ellenborough by winning two singles each.  

Ian was tested against Daniel Ives of Progress but Ian’s experience and power came through in the end with a score of 11-8 in the fifth ! Marc Armstrong and Charlie Smith chipped in well by providing a vital win each in this match !

Their second match was against Cippenham III.  Cippenham III caused them quite a few problems and each game became a major battle for the Ellenborough team !

Both Nick Hansell and Ashley Shaw scored wins over Ellenborough number 2 Charlie Smith and Phil Clarkson added an excellent 3-1 victory over Ellenborough Junior Boy Marc Armstrong.  

Chris Marlow and Ian Black were both unbeaten – Chris Marlow in particular handling the pressure extremely well. With the match standing at 4-3 to Ellenborough Chris defeated Graham Trimming to take two vital points for the team.  This was an excellent win for Chris as Chris was only too aware that a loss of a point at this stage would have been devasting for the team.  

Club Cornwall sensing an upset was on the cards, stayed behind to watch the Ellenborough match despite the fact that they had finished and had a 5 hour journey back to Cornwall.  

Well done to Chris for handling the pressure !!
