Thirteen juniors from Ellenborough, eleven boys and two girls, plus two members from Mayfield TTC, completed an ETTA Networker course held at Ellenborough TTC on Saturday, 9th July.

Led by two of ETTA’s most able presenters, Martin Ireland and Diccon Grey, the course aims were to enable TT Networkers (leaders) to organise safe, enjoyable and purposeful table tennis activities primarily for young people and to provide a lead into coaching, organising competitions, umpiring, TT development and an awareness of equity issues in the sport. It could also be the first step on the coaching or administration ladder in assisting in after-school clubs, holiday schemes etc.

After a full day covering aspects such as leadership, health and safety, organising fun games for very young learners etc, the course participants were able to demonstrate their knowledge and ability to carry out their newly found skills. Each of the youngsters was then awarded with a resource pack and a certificate.

Finally, Terry Wilson, Ellenborough’s coaching secretary, thanked Diccon and Martin for their skilful and very enjoyable presentation.
