English Schools Individual Finals 2006
Ellenborough had 5 players appearing in the English Schools finals played at the Fenton Sports Centre, Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday, 22 April. Marc Armstrong and Joe Chacholiades contested the Boys Under 19’s, whilst 10 year-old, Conner Neenan competed in the Boys U11’s. Lindsey Armstrong, U16’s and Colette Neenan, U19’s made up the group. Everybody played well against the best in the country, and whilst we had no champions this time, the club has good reason to be proud of all their players who performed so well throughout the day.

National Trials
Ranked Number 1 in Middlesex, Ellenborough’s Connor Neenan recently qualified for the finals of the newly established Nationals Trials in Bristol, which serves as nationwide talent identification. A student at Merryhills Primary School, Enfield, Connor was unbeaten in his group of eight Under 11 boys before winning his semi-final in a fierce 5-setter. Connor bowed out in the final – another 5-set match – to win Silver – a great effort!

Middlesex Junior Closed
Congratulations to Ellenborough’s Joe Chacholiades who won the Middlesex Junior Closed tournament on Sunday, 23 April at Southall College; Joe beat club colleague Hoxley Baron, in the final. Hoxley reached the final by beating another Ellenborough junior, Stephen Kong, in the semi-finals. Mark Parris played well losing on count back to be denied a place in the later stages of the competition. In the under 15’s Joseph Kong played well to win through to the semi-final stage.

Individual English Schools Championships
Colette Neenan 14,  bravely  represented Enfield County School and Middlesex in the U19 Individual English Schools Championships in Stoke.   Colette hoped to gain valuable experience at this high level.  Her confidence soared as she took her first match in the fifth game defeating the Lincolnshire County Champion.  Colette again battled into a fifth game against the Hampshire County Champion who eventually took the match.  Colette’s spirit lifted as she took a game off the No.1 Seed in the tournament who defeated Colette 3-1,  All in all it was a superb performance from this young player.

Connor Neenan 11, represented Merryhills Primary School and Middx, in the U11 English Schools Championships in Stoke.  Connor played well in his first group, defeating the County Champions from Leicestershire, North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire .  Connor then faced a tough first round match against the Cheshire County Champion, Connor dropped the first two games 10-12, 10-12 and staged a remarkable comeback to take the next three sets 11-3,11-3, 11-4, only to face the No.1 seed and eventual winner in the quarter final where Connor bowed out.
