Last year’s Junior Open Day was cancelled for the first time owing to the club being closed for refurbishment. It was therefore a particularly joyous occasion when in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Enfield, Lee Chamberlain, and other guests this year’s event took place at the new club on Sunday, 10 June.
Chairman, David Hope, welcomed everyone before the club’s coaching staff put the many children present through their paces, to the delight of all the parents and friends present.
The Deputy Mayor presented well-earned awards to rising young star, Connor Neenan; and then Mark Jones presented the prestigious Eddie Jones trophy for the club’s most improved junior player to 13 year-old Yvonne Yip. David Hope presented the equally prestigious John Danson trophy for the most promising young player of the year to 11 year-old Leanne Neary.
Demonstrations of playing skills by the youngsters were enjoyed before an opportunity was given to parents and in some cases grandparents to compete in fun sessions with their offspring.
After welcome refreshments organized by committee member Anne Flowerday, everyone was given a further chance to play in the club’s excellent new arena.
A great turnout with many old friends present!
