On Wednesday, 29 August, Ellenborough Table Tennis
Club invited girls and women to take part in a free “taster evening”
of table tennis. A good crowd took up the challenge to play and have some
coaching from the club’s coaching staff. Many of those who turned up for the evening had not
played the game for a year or so if at all. But in no time everyone was
taking part and using techniques they never knew they possessed! Club Chairman, David Hope, was present to make sure
the evening went well and he even made all the refreshments – which were
also free. The English Table Tennis Association’s London Development
Officer, Brian Spicer, also put in an appearance and expressed his delight
at the club’s initiative in encouraging the fairer sex to enjoy the
game. A most enjoyable evening and one the club will wish
to repeat in future.
