REPORT ON DAY 3 - PLAYED AT ELLENBOROUGH TABLE TENNIS CLUB, ENFIELD, MIDDLESEX ON SATURDAY, 28TH JAN. 2012.
A long session in which all 16 teams each played 4 matches took place on this day and saw what amounted to a series of private battles. For instance, in Division 1 Ellenborough 'A' and TT-On-Sea defended their positions as leaders and runners-up, Ellenborough 'A' winning their four matches 8 - 1, 9 - 0, 9 - 0 and 6 - 3, and TT-On-Sea equalling this with scores of 9 - 0, 8 - 1, 9 - 0 and 6 - 3. The next pair Watford Jets and Chelmsford 'A' continue to be well behind (17 points) with 57 and 56 points respectively. Both sides obviously are determined to finish third if they passably can. On this day Watford Jets beat Chelmsford by 6 - 3 and climbed above Chelmsford. There is then another gap to BATTS 'A', Mossford '1' and Barnet 'I' with 39, 33 and 31 points each. Poor old BATTS 'B' trail the top 7 teams by 16 points with only 14.
Top of Division 2 are Ellenborough 'B' and Chelmsford 'B' with 77 and 76 points. In today's fixtures Chelmsford lost 4 - 5 to the host side, but clearly are hoping to outscore them on day 4 to take the Gold Medals. There is another big gap in this division to Mossford '2', Ellenborough 'C' and BATTS 'C', who stand on 56, 52 and 47 points, then to Barnet II, Ellenborough 'D' and BATTS 'D' who have 35, 33 and 20 points each.
Notes:
1. I notice that a few players are still wearing white shorts, which of course is contrary to the ETTA Rules. Can you please ensure that none of your players does this as it really should disqualify them from taking part.
2. Also, teams are not checking the results in order to ensure at the foot thereof the correct final score of their matches, then sign same (both captains). Perhaps team managers can take it upon themselves before the document is handed in.
3. The final programme of matches is due to take place at Ellenborough on Saturday 3rd March 2012 at the conclusion of which trophies will be presented to the winning teams and the runners up. Teams should report to 'Control' if possible by 8.45 AM thus enabling play to start at 9 AM. Preferably this can be done by Team Managers rather than individual players.
