Ellenborough Over 50's Section
The group was formed in 2002 by George Brown (not the politician!) independently following the Enfield Council’s initiative to encourage the over 50’s to be more active and to take up a sport. Ellenborough’s Sylvia Tyler contacted the group to see if they would be interested in using the group’s facilities.
Publicity of the over 50’s sessions by Carol Haldin created further awareness. She is the only original member still actively playing in the over 50 sessions.
Ellenborough’s ranks were increased by the arrival of the Pickett’s Lock table tennis club members when their facility closed.
Due to the popularity of the over 50’s group with nearly 50 members playing 4 mornings a week, mostly double games are played, the club being a victim of its own success. Expansion is planned and cannot come soon enough.“
