New Tables For Ellenborough

A TABLE tennis club in Enfield is looking forward to getting ten new tables thanks to a grant from the Enfield Independent.
Ellenborough Table Tennis Club was chosen by our parent company Gannett to receive £5,592, which it is planning to use to replace the aging equipment.
Christina Wright, joint secretary of the club, said: “Out of the 15 tables we have, ten of them are really old.
“This is brilliant news, it really will make a big different for everyone at the club.”
The club was founded in 1936 at a school in Ellenborough Road, Wood Green, before moving to Bowes Pavilion at Tottenhall Sports Ground, in Palmers Green after the Second World War.
They made their final move to the current home in 1973 after the Bowes Pavilion burned to the ground, and built a purpose-built table tennis clubhouse which opened in October 2006.
The club is open seven days a week, providing playing space for children as young as six right up to pensioners.
Ms Wright said there are eight over 80s players who come four days a week to play all morning and are as energetic as any other player in the club.
Young players who don't want to pay the annual membership can come on Wednesday evenings and pay £1 to play.
